The entire staff at St. Regis Monarch beach was the best I have ever encountered! Very friendly and helpful with a smile at all times. We felt very welcome and special. Would return and recommend without hesitation.

We had a lovely experience at this hotel. The room and amenities were exceptionally lovely and the service was excellent. In fact, we found the service to be on par with a Ritz Carlton which is known for its excellent service. We would return in a heartbeat.

The resort is very beautiful. However our room had a foul odor of sewage in the afternoons and evening. Also, we were not informed that our floor allowed dogs and there was one in residence. Had we had our grandchild with us which we often do, we could have had a very bad situation as she is very allergic to dogs. Also the carpet in our room had several  stains which I complained about to the management. I would expect a resort of this caliber and cost to be without these issues.

This hotel absolutely made our vacation. We could have stayed on property and been perfectly happy. Beautiful private beach - Monarch release on Saturday. Lovely places to sit and enjoy the services. The room was very nice and open. Maid service and turn down service can't be beat! Very nice pool for adults and children. Great service at the beach as  well as the pool. Everything we needed was provided promptly and well beyond satisfactory! A++++++

I stayed here for two nights on a well-deserved get-away from the stress trip. Although this is definitely a family hotel, it was relatively quiet and there were plenty of places to escape the kid scene. The staff is extremely well-trained and I found everyone to be helpful, polite and accomodating to the extent possible. When I checked in I was given a ground floor room, not my preference, and they were booked to the gills so the greeter suggested that I try again later when there was less commotion at the check in point and when other guests who had requested room changes had been accomodated there might be a better choice for me (I was late checking in). Later that night, they were able to accomodate my room change request, yes, after I had basically used the ground floor room, and they moved me promptly without any fuss to a nice fourth floor room. The room is well appointed, spacious and luxurious. I faced the garden and still had a partial ocean view, it was quiet though I was near the elevator bay. The spa was a nice retreat, the therapists were experienced and helpful. When check out day came, I didn't want to leave, so the host made accomodation to hold my bags, I finished another three hours at the spa and changed then checked out. I let them clean and prepare the room for the next guest but they kept my room open for charges so that I could enjoy yet another wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant Motiv. The hotel is close to town so it was easy to roll in for a stroll in Dana Point.

The hotel is nice, there is no question about it. There was a fee to use the fitness room, spa and internet in the room even if you are not going to use any of these services (which I did not but still had to pay). I felt that should be part of the hotel rate and it just looks terrible like they are trying to take money out of you in any way they can. The hotel is nice but the experience of staying there did not impress me.

My wife and I were very disappointed in this hotel which is held out to be a 5-star resort. The price of the room is outrageous for what you get (instead of the St. Regis we began calling it the "Out-rageous"). Rooms, though comfortable and relatively large, were poorly maintained. Our air conditioning did not work, several lights were burned out and the safe had "low batteries" and therefore was unusable. Calls to the front desk resulted in frustrating hold times of many minutes - so we just decided to let the issues go rather than wait on hold and then wait for a member of the staff to show up. It seems as though the fact this hotel is bankrupt (in receivership) has very much affected service as well. Waits at the coffee shop for simple items (like yogurt or granola) were 15 minutes or longer. The cause - a skeleton crew who were completely unprepared (at 10 a.m. - we were told the yogurt parfaits had not been made in time for Sunday morning). Add to this the fact that they add a hidden "resort fee" of $35 and a "parking fee" of $25 on top of the outrageous price they already charge - and you can see why we just cannot recommend this place to anyone. This is a wanna-be 5-star resort at full 5-star prices. Avoid it like the plague.

I must say that the resort is just beautiful. But the main reason I went there for the Memorial Day weekend was to catch up on some rest and relax for two days The first night we got to bed at around 11pm and was awakened at around 2am with the sound of loud running water above my head it lasted for about 30 minutes then it stopped and started again and continued for another 20 minutes I called the front desk and they said they would take care of it. Then at around 4 pm it sounded like the people above me were dragging furniture around their suite I was a little upset because I did not get back to sleep and ended up more tired than if I had stayed in my home in Los Angeles. I asked to be moved to another room and was moved to a higher floor which made all the difference. Just a note to self do not stay on the 1st floor north wing room 115 really bad. Valet is very slow so make sure to call from your room or you will wait for 20 minutes Also we had requested to have our Champaign put on ice and both nights they brought the ice bucket and did not put the Champaign in the ice bucket so when we got back to our room we had plenty of ice and warm champagne and no champagne glasses, When I stay at a resort of this caliber I am looking for all the little special things they can do for you that makes your stay amazing and the St Regis dropped the ball on many of them Dinner at Stonehill Tavern was fantastic and the St Regis CD that they have supplied in the room is a must buy. Over all not bad but I have stayed at much better for about the same price.
