Recent St Regis Monarch Beach Review: "I stayed here for two nights on a well-deserved get-away from the stress trip. Although this is definitely a family hotel, it was relatively quiet and there were plenty of places to escape the kid scene. The staff is extremely well-trained and I found everyone to be helpful, polite and accomodating to the extent possible. When I checked in I was given a ground floor room, not my preference, and they were booked to the gills so the greeter suggested that I try again later when there was less commotion at the check in point and when other guests who had requested room changes had been accomodated there might be a better choice for me (I was late checking in). Later that night, they were able to accomodate my room change request, yes, after I had basically used the ground floor room, and they moved me promptly without any fuss to a nice fourth floor room. The room is well appointed, spacious and luxurious. I faced the garden and still had a partial ocean view, it was quiet though I was near the elevator bay. The spa was a nice retreat, the therapists were experienced and helpful. When check out day came, I didn't want to leave, so the host made accomodation to hold my bags, I finished another three hours at the spa and changed then checked out. I let them clean and prepare the room for the next guest but they kept my room open for charges so that I could enjoy yet another wonderful meal at the hotel restaurant Motiv. The hotel is close to town so it was easy to roll in for a stroll in Dana Point."

Expert Tip
For intimate gatherings, the hotel's wine cellar can be reserved and provides the ultimate dining experience. Guests will marvel at the cellar's unique ambience, where century-old French paved floors, stone walls, mahogany and custom iron furnishings, and more than 17,000 bottles of wine create a distinctively castle-like atmosphere.

  • A short guide to Laguna - South Beaches

Reality TV portrays Laguna Beach as the land of the young and spoiled. But beneath this veneer is a city rooted in the arts. The Laguna Playhouse is one of the oldest theaters in the West Coast. The city also hosts the annual Festival of the Arts/Pageant of the Masters and the Sawdust Art Festival. West of Laguna Beach, Crystal Cove State Park’s unspoiled beach attracts snorkelers and divers.
